I had that same problem. But a friend of mine fixed the way Nero suggested. And it worked out just fine. My advice would be to follow Nero’s suggestion Hope it all works out okay soon Looking forward to seing you back on track ;D

Ah Carol..sorry i forgot to read this topic. You sound like you installed something that messed up your pc..I do that alot..but it always work when i do System Restore or start up repair, it always worked. One time i couldn’t do system restore, so i did the hard disk repair(don’t really remember what it was). Then, i could use system restore..I stopped using windows XP for awhile now, i don’t know if it has startup repair. Hope you’ll get it fixed soon.

Ok, he did it on my computer and search for avast and see a link that he been too. I believe this is the site to go. http://www.avast.com how hard that was, uh. Like I said if its helpful to you or anyone, go ahide and try it yourself, its working like a charm for me.

I had a virus too, connection went bad, everything did. Find out there was rogon, trojon and all virus in them, if you know what those virus are, then you know what im talking about, those are bad ones. ANYWHO, my dad is the one that fix it for me, I have whats call avast which works like a charm. He said I can tell people to look up AVAST. Its scans your computer, keeps your computer protected from virus, it takes it away basically. They try to get you buy it but you can if you want. But you can have it for 90 days free. My dad said you can download it for free for 90 days, when the day is up, cancle it then install it again, then you get for 90 days free. My dad has one set on other computer in the living room. It works. Everyday, you will see a little pop up on bottom right side and a voice saying “avast updated” meaning it been scan and what not. You don’t need to do anything.

Anyways, if this is helpful to you OR anyone, you can try it yourself. All I know that he said look up avast

No actually I don’t mind at all hon.

I’ve had issue with start up for a month or more but it happened once or twice here and there so I didn’t do much about it yet, and as I’ve been busy I wasn’t able to give it much thought and seeing as my computer was running normally I didn’t. My problem occurred yesterday after I updated my AVG Virus Protection and Advanced Windows Care programs because I was trying to update my ZoneAlarm but it said I needed this Window’s Microsoft “HotFix” for some .DLL file that causes errors in Windows XP. Well I did as it said, I downloaded it and installed it and rebooted my comp as it told me to. I didn’t have any problems then it was only after I updated my ZoneAlarm firewall did everything go to shit. I rebooted once more after the upgrade and when it came back up it took much longer than needed on the “Welcome” screen and then it finally after a full 2 minutes maybe less shown my desktop wallpaper but stood to show nothing else. If I let it sit there for 10-15 maybe 20 minutes it will finally load my taskbar and desktop icons but until it does the only thing I can access Windows Task Manager by pressing ctrl+alt+delete.

First thing initally was I was going to reformat, I was prepared and luckily backed up everything I needed to while I had the chance. Sadly reformatting from the original cd that came with the computer isn’t an option, though I have used this method atleast 3 times since I got the computer in 2006. It uses “PC Angel” and after the PC Angel loading page finishes before it can even go anywhere it pop ups with an error that I can’t recall right now and then after you hit okay the second error pop ups with “Error 2: C: \minint\system32\Restore.log” and I have googled everything my brain can concoct and cannot find a cure to this problem. I know my restore had problems before I done any of the previously mentioned upgrades because earlier in the day I tried to make a restore point just in case and it wouldn’t so I turned my restore off then back on when I’ve done before and it actually fixes the problem but this time it didn’t. Whatever is on my computer has messed with some very important files and it won’t let me reformat, won’t let me do the recovery console even though I got it finally to install it, it won’t even let me get on the internet anymore.

The best I can do it put programs on a cd and burn them only to put them in my sick computer because without internet I’m left without many options.

If you can help, I’d appreciate it but it’s a very complicated thing so no worries if you can’t hon.

If you don’t mind me giving some suggestions..here they are..

If you can’t start up a pc, you might wanna do a system restore, or do start up repair..

if you can start up your pc but is affected by virus..i suggest you scan the pc with a good anti-virus..i’ve tried almost all the famous/popular anti-virus..and i think AVG Internet security(not free, but there’s a way) is the best there is, at least for me…and install Ccleaner to clean registry and residues
